Accessibility Policy

Last Update: March 7, 2024.

Accessibility by Design

Accessibility is our priority and is a right of all visitors to this Website.

In fact, inclusion is part of our university research. You can check out our inclusive projects on the Webmuseu didactic platform and read our posts in the accessibility tag.

Therefore, we are working to make this platform as inclusive as possible, according to the principles established by the Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) of WC3 — The World Wide Web Consortium.

Accessibility Resources of this Website

Examples of actions implemented to ensure the inclusion of this Website:

Inclusive Technologies – We use technologies and resources that focus on accessibility as a principle, such as the WordPress Content Management System (the main software for this platform).

Semantic Web – Our content is marked so that screen reader software can interpret it correctly for people with visual impairments. For example, post titles and subtitles are not simply “bigger” for aesthetic reasons. The page’s code tells screen readers that those sentences are titles and subtitles. This way, the blind user or user with severe visual impairment can navigate between the post sections and choose the ones they want to listen to by title. This markup is an example of a Semantic Web application.

Alt Text on Images – We are implementing alt text on all images. Alternative text is a description that does not appear visually on the page but is read by screen readers for people with visual impairments. This text describes the image’s content objectively, in addition to the information in the caption.

Inclusive Design – This Website’s colours, typography, responsive layout, and other design aspects were planned to maximise accessibility. What the design does not include can be remedied by the visitor using One Click Accessibility.

One Click Accessibility – Plugin for WordPress, which adds a sidebar to the Website with accessibility features for people with visual impairments.
