Tropical Productivity

In the first phase of my professional and academic career, I studied the most renowned international management models applicable to cultural heritage.

In addition, I made technical visits to several countries, totalling more than seventy museums, libraries, archives, cultural institutions and universities abroad.

I coordinated projects aimed at testing my management processes in real situations. These projects received national and international awards and/or recognition. A highlight was the Wise Stones Project, awarded by the Ibermuseos and selected for publication in a book edited by the Smithsonian Institution.

The goal at this stage was to learn about the best foreign practices in cultural management and bring them to Brazil, adapted to our reality.

My best contribution during this period was my doctoral thesis, published in the book Management of Museum and Exhibition Projects.

Although the PDF of the monograph is available free of charge on the Web, the book sold out its first edition and is constantly being reprinted by the publisher.

It was launched by C/Arte publishing house, with resources from the important funding agency FAPEMIG. Therefore, it has been triple-validated by peers.

First, by the doctoral committee, with renowned professors in management and culture. Second, by the FAPEMIG Editorial Committee, which evaluates publications that deserve to be awarded with funds. Third, by the Editorial Board of C/Arte.

With over thirty years of existence in the market, the publisher C/Arte is one of the most important in the area of culture in Brazil. Its catalogue of over 300 books includes award-winning authors and renowned intellectuals.

C/Arte has already offered to publish other titles of mine, as well as a new edition of the book of my thesis. We are working to meet this demand as soon as possible. After all, here we prioritise quality, not quantity. I want my next book to have the same impact as the first.

My book has been adopted as a reference for several undergraduate, graduate and MBA courses. At UFMG, my university, I teach management for the Museums Studies Course. It is an honour and a great joy for me that the reference book on the subject is my own publication.

My book was also chosen as the official bibliography for service job exams (tenured positions) in the area of culture. Finally, it was the official bibliography for selective exams for tenured professor positions at important Brazilian universities.

I am entering a new phase of my academic career, which is also reflected in this blog. In the last two decades, I have focused on bringing to Brazil the best management systems other countries offer.

Now, I am on the opposite way. I want to take to the world the best Brazil offers in terms of inclusive management and cultural heritage.

This new phase of the blog, therefore, is my first contribution towards this goal.

Here I write about productivity and quality of life, from the perspective of my Brazilianness. In dialogue with international literature, I address management, personal development and culture from the point of view of someone who lives in a sunny and tropical country.
