Privacy by Design
This Website is committed to protecting the fundamental rights of freedom and privacy. We understand that we live in an era of surveillance capitalism, where attention economy strategies predominate. We do not intend to endorse these strategies, on the contrary.
In this sense, we support the various international laws that aim to regulate users’ privacy rights, such as LGPD (Brazil), GDPR (European Union), and CPPA (California, USA).
Agreement with this Privacy Policy
In this spirit of respect for all visitors to this platform (referred to as “user” or “you”), we have prepared this Privacy Policy, which describes the policies of the Ana Cecilia Digital platform, developed and published solely by Ana Cecilia Rocha Veiga at the URL https://anacecilia.digital (referred to as “Website” in this document).
By accessing this Website and/or providing your data on the platform’s forms, you are automatically consenting to the collection and use of your information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
Disclaimer: If you do not agree with this privacy policy and other policies and terms of use, please be aware that you should not visit this Website. Your agreement is a prerequisite for accessing and using our services.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may modify this Privacy Policy at any time without prior notice. The revised version will always be posted on this page of the Website and will take effect 180 days after the posting.
If you continue to access the service after this period, this will constitute your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy. Therefore, we recommend visiting this page periodically to check for possible updates.
Information We Collect
Personal Data is information that can be used to identify a natural person. Sensitive Personal Data includes information about racial and ethnic origin, religious, philosophical or political beliefs, health and sexual life, genetics, or biometrics.
When you access this Website without filling out any form, no Personal Data of yours is collected. The services that provide traffic statistics for this Website do not identify the user individually but through numbers and graphs.
We are transitioning from Google Analytics to a new hit-counting software that does not use cookies. This new software will collect data on pages visited, location (country, city), type of device used, browser, language, and origin (direct traffic, search engines, links), as well as the time spent on each page.
All of this collected data is anonymised and does not identify you. In other words, if you browse this Website, I cannot tell who you are. Please read our Cookies Policy to learn more about traffic statistics for this Website.
This Website does not collect Sensitive Personal Data, but if you voluntarily provide it in our email communication, this is outside the scope of this Website and its services. Therefore, what you write in the contact form is at your own risk.
In terms of Personal Data, if you fill out the Newsletter or Contact form, we collect:
1. Name (optional; you can leave it blank if you want).
2. Email.
Our Newsletter is designed to respect your privacy. Therefore, it does not collect or use your name.
First, we do that to allow you to provide us with only what is essential to receive the service. In this case, your email.
Second, we should not reinforce an emotional connection with the author that does not exist in practice. This connection could be established unconsciously if we address you by name in the Newsletter, giving the impression that it is a personalised communication, which is not the case with the Newsletter.
How We Use Your Information
We only use your information for the following purposes:
1. Contact Form: If you write us a message via the Contact form, we will use your name (optional) and email to respond. From then on, our communication will occur via email or electronic messages and is not linked to this Website and Privacy Policy. It is at your own risk. We use Proton‘s encrypted email services to respond to you.
2. Newsletter: If you sign up for the Newsletter, we will use your email to send a monthly Newsletter and, if necessary, information about news and services on this Website. The Newsletter will be launched soon, but we are already collecting subscribers.
By filling out the Contact and Newsletter forms, you consent to the above uses.
This consent may be revoked at any time upon your request to stop receiving the Newsletter (a link will be sent in each email) or to stop communicating with the author (please reply to the email asking to be deleted from the mailing list).
Information Sharing
Under no circumstances will we pass on your data to third parties without your authorisation, and we will never sell your data to third parties. We do not carry out international transfers of your Personal Data, which are processed exclusively by the author (Ana Cecilia Rocha Veiga) in Brazil.
This Website is not monetised and does not accept commercial sponsorship or paid advertising. Therefore, you do not risk receiving spam or ads from partner companies.
All products, services, professionals, etc., mentioned or recommended here are on their own merit or because they are appropriate to the context of the content. None of them are the result of receiving any type of benefit, financial or otherwise.
If this Website is ever monetised, in any way that does not violate our moral and ethical principles, we will update this Privacy Policy.
We use companies that store the databases and software for this platform to operate the Website. However, they do not have direct access to your personal information (for example, they do not have direct access to your email or name saved in the database). For more details, check the next item.
How We Store Your Information
Given this Website’s total transparency, click here to learn about all the technologies, resources and service providers we use to ensure the platform’s correct functioning.
Some examples of service providers include FastComet, a company that hosts this Website on a physical server in London, and CloudFlare, a company that distributes this Website faster across its servers around the world.
If this is important to you, we suggest you check our service providers’ Privacy Policies. We cannot be held responsible for these third-party companies.
Our commitment to you, our users, is unwavering. We always select companies that prioritise privacy in their policies, giving preference to those that comply with the main general data protection laws in force (LGPD, GDPR, etc.).
Provision of Data to Courts
If we are requested by law, we may pass on your information to Brazilian or foreign courts in the following circumstances:
1. To comply with law, regulations, court order or other legal process.
2. To prove that this Website has not violated any legislation.
Information Retention
For the email provided by the Newsletter form, we will retain your email address permanently or until you request to cancel the service via the link in the footer of each email.
The name (optional), email, and other information you provide in the Contact form will be retained permanently or until you request it to be deleted via email [email protected]
Access data to this Website, which does not identify users individually (therefore, does not constitute Personal or Sensitive Data), is stored permanently.
Privacy of our Virtual or Face-to-face Contacts
If your message sent via the Contact form generates an exchange of emails, DMs (Direct Messages), video conferences, or face-to-face meetings between you and the author, this is outside the scope of this Website. Therefore, it is at your own risk. However, explaining how we treat this particular contact here is essential.
All form messages and emails on this platform are processed and responded to by the author, Ana Cecilia Rocha Veiga (in this item, referred to as “I” and other first-person pronouns).
I save my emails and messages permanently, but I do not disclose your name or the content of our electronic conversations to anyone. Occasionally, I may mention my personal cases and communications in the blog texts, but always in a way that preserves the identity of those involved.
If I want to publish your name and/or the content of our face-to-face or electronic conversations on this Website, I will first request your express authorisation in writing or via your official email address.
Because of this blog and my profession, I interact with hundreds of people. I never mention my public or anonymous contacts without them taking the spontaneous initiative to disclose our connection before I do publicly. But in general, I take care to avoid doing so.
My goal when exchanging emails with my readers or getting in touch with professionals, professors, and people I admire is not personal marketing. It is about my development as a human being, obtaining feedback, exchanging knowledge, establishing partnerships and building exciting relationships.
Finally, contacts for research purposes follow their processes, including the signing of Consent Terms and other rules requested by the Research Ethics Committee of my university, UFMG.
Therefore, research contacts are outside the scope of this Policy and the services of this Website, even though contacts made here may generate invitations for your participation in my academic projects. I respect your freedom to choose whether to accept these invitations or not.
Your Rights
Rest assured, below each email we send via Newsletter, a link will be available to cancel the service easily.
As the holder of your Personal Data provided in the forms on this Website, you are guaranteed to request at any time by email [email protected]:
- Confirmation of the existence of Personal Data processing.
- What data and information we hold about you.
- Correction of your data that needs to be completed, accurate or updated.
- Revocation of consent, when applicable (e.g. cancellation of the Newsletter).
- Complete deletion of your Personal Data from our database, namely information provided via forms.
The deadline for providing simplified data is five working days, and for complete data is fifteen working days.
Examples of simplified data are your name and email.
Complete data include the criteria and purposes for processing data on this Website, respecting the secrets relevant to the platform (e.g., we are not obliged to provide traffic data for individual users).
Security of Collected Information
Cybersecurity is a priority on this Website. The topic is even part of our research at the university, the results of which you can check on the Webmuseu didactic platform.
We use the best and most modern services and plugins available on the Internet, aiming to guarantee the cybersecurity and privacy of your data. Our list of resources and technologies is available here.
The information transmitted between you and the Website (for example, Newsletter and Contact forms) is encrypted using SSL/TSL (Secure Sockets Layer/Transport Layer Security).
You can check this by looking at the URL of our Website (https) and the padlock that appears next to it in your browser. This proves that it is safe browsing.
We use the CloudFlare service, which helps with the rapid distribution of our Website worldwide and cybersecurity. Cloudflare also checks whether the person filling out the form data is a human.
To further ensure your security, we recommend using browsers that prioritise privacy and are more modern and well-known, such as Mozilla Firefox (our favourite), Safari (our second favourite) and Brave.
Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge are good in terms of cybersecurity, but their policies and terms of use do not prioritise our privacy.
Finally, I have been a Web developer since 2004, and no website under my full responsibility (hosting management, Web development and content) has ever been hacked. However, any website can be hacked despite using the best technologies and preventive practices.
Therefore, despite our many efforts (mine and those of the services we use) to ensure the security of this Website, due to the inherent risks of the Web, we cannot be held responsible for possible failures and hacking. So, accessing this Website and providing personal data is at your own risk.
If even powerful governments and law enforcement agencies have been hacked, this is a risk we are all taking on the Internet.

Our content may mention companies, services, professionals, blogs, etc. It may also contain links to third-party websites that we do not operate.
We are not responsible for your security and privacy when using these third-party links or accessing content from companies and people mentioned here.
We recommend that you check the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use of each Website you visit on the Internet.
Grievance and Data Protection Officer
If you have any questions regarding processing your Personal Data or wish to exercise any of your rights as the holder of this information, please email Ana Cecilia Rocha Veiga at [email protected]
Contacts of the Website’s Author and Manager
This Website is managed by Ana Cecilia Nascimento Rocha Veiga, a resident of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. It is a professional but also a personal platform. Therefore, for obvious reasons, I am unable to provide my home address.
Despite this being a scientific dissemination website, with publications and resources linked to my research and activities at the university, all content published here is my sole responsibility. UFMG, the university where I work, has no legal link to this Website. Check this platform’s Terms of Use for more information.
However, my business address and telephone number are public knowledge because of the nature of my work as a professor. So, I make them available on this platform’s Contact page.
Please use that contact address if you want to send me physical correspondence. I’m not always in my office to answer the phone. Therefore, the most direct way to connect with me is through the Contact form.
I responded to all the emails I have received so far, but the response may take a while. Please wait patiently.
